Monday Mania – 8.8.2016

It’s pretty incredible to think that it August already.

Of course, we are also one month closer to the presidential selection. I am honestly in fear for our country. One of the issues that concerns me most as a veteran is how neither Clinton or Trump have any good frame of reference to be the Commander-in-Chief. Obama didn’t either and we all can see how he has treated our military.

At a minimum, consider this account about Hillary Clinton from an Air Force vet who was a Military Working Dog handler:

I’m not Voting for Clinton.

It has nothing to do with her views. It really doesn’t even matter about all the laws she broke.

It’s because She actually talked to me once. Almost a sentence. But first, some background.

Being a K9 handler in the Military I got to do a few details involving Distinguished Visitors. Mostly Generals, DOD Officials, and Secretaries of Defense. I was lucky enough to pull two awesome details. George W Bush, and Obama.

GW looked at me, said “Man, who’d you piss off” high fived me, and continued on. I was climbing down from a catwalk I stood on for 4 hours with nothing but Dust and a radio to keep me company. The radio died early on. It was pretty sweet.

Obama, as he was walking out to his plane in Turkey, said “What the hell kind of dog is that?!” In reference to Suli.

One of my Last details was for Hillary when she was Secretary of State. She was in Turkey for whatever reason. I helped with sweeps of her DV Quarters and staff vehicles. Her words to me? “Get that F****** dog away from me.” Then she turns to her Security Detail and berates them up and down about why that animal was in her quarters. For the next 20 minutes while I sit there waiting to be released she lays into her detail, slamming the door in their faces when she’s done. The Detail lead walks over apologizes and releases me. I apologize to him for getting him in trouble. His words “Happens every day, Brother”

Hillary doesn’t care about anyone but Hillary.

It seems as though we are in one of those situations where a healthy amount of fear is good. These options are not good for America. If we want to make America great again, we need to stand up as Americans and create the changes that need to be made, regardless of how we have to make it happen.

Don’t lose focus on the fact that there are more reasons to be prepared now, then there ever have been before.

I hope y’all have a blessed week!

MY FINDS FOR LAST WEEK:

Judge Kills Gary Johnson’s Attempt to Change Presidential Debate Rules – Everyone thinks Donald Trump is crazy (I’m not saying he’s not!) for saying that the election is rigged. I think he is right (although not for the same reasons) and here is proof that we operate in a system that is not truly interested in the desires of the people, only those who run the system.

Define Your Disaster – This is the perfect first step for any beginning prepper OR someone who got started and may need some refocusing. I would be lying if I said I always have it together. Additionally, as someone who has moved on a regular basis, this could be a great tool for reassessing threats in a new area.

Seven Places Where WW3 Could Start at Any Time – If for no other reason, this is good information to have from a situational awareness perspective. Depending on where you are located in the world, this info could be used to assess the threats that you face in your area.

With Terror and Rape Spreading, “Self-Defense Weapons Permits Hit Record Highs” in Germany – My take away…take your defensive options seriously, defend your rights, and put measures into place before limitations can be placed on you.

AD: Don't waste $$$ on a $300 water filter when there is a more affordable option available!

Now Collapsing Flint Suspends Trash Pick-up: “Stench of Rotting Garbage Permeating Streets” – Stay clear of this public health crisis in Michigan!

Edible Flowers: 42 Varieties to Add to Your Garden – I happen to be a fan of the peppery tones of the nastiertium on my salad.

MORE MADNESS IN THE WORLD:

Chinese Drills Prepare for “Sudden, Cruel and Short” Electronic Warfare in Disputed Waters – This is interesting, especially considering what happened with the Chinese Navy at RIMPAC in 2014, what they did after the 2014 RIMPAC exercise, and the fact that the U.S. still did not learn anything from it!

Lobbyists Woo Potential Freshmen Long Before Election Day – No wonder we have a corrupt system.

ILLINOIS INSTITUTES CHILLING NEW MANDATE FOR SCHOOLS TO TEACH CHILDREN HOW TO SUBMIT TO POLICE

FEDERAL AGENCY SUGGESTS THAT GADSDEN FLAG MAY BE RACIST – Is there nothing better for the federal government to do? I guess the obvious answer is no.

The Big Khan Con – I think that maybe the whole world has gone mad.

That’s a wrap for me this week. As always, I hope that you all have a great week and keep getting ready for tough times. It seems like we get closer every day to something unfortunate coming along.

10 Items to Keep Your Survival Chances in Check

The following is a guest submission on some of the ways to ensure your survival in the wake of an emergency.

10 Items to Keep Your Survival Chances in Check

Zombie apocalypse. Doomsday. End of the world.

These are some of the situations that we just regularly see in movies, TV shows, or in books. We tend to be amazed on how the protagonist manages to survive a certain kind of situation that seems impossible to escape. But have you ever thought of your escape plan if ever these situations happen in your lifetime? More importantly, have you ever thought of the things that you need to have in order to survive?

And if natural disasters and panic have already raged your neighborhood, will you just get the items that you instantly see based on your instincts and or will you easily grab your ever-reliable emergency survival kits and run as fast as you can for your dear life? For me, the latter sounds much better.

Of course, preparing ahead is much, much better compared to rushing things especially during doomsday where the atmosphere is already tense, nerve-wracking and full of fear. A prepper naturally has the foresight and prepares everything as organized and as detailed as possible. You wouldn’t want to miss out on a single item that you need to have for you and your loved ones’ survival.

Here are 10 security items that you need to have to keep your survival chances in check if ever the worse day happens.

1. Water Supply To Quench Your Thirst

This comes first in our list. Without water for 3 to 4 days, you’ll eventually die and that is the ultimate situation that you need to avoid as you fight for survival. You will definitely need to have ‘drinking’ water intact and not just any other type of water unless you want to die of other water-related diseases. Have a big table-top ceramic filter type of water container to store your drinking water.

2. Food Storage To Avoid Starving

This is a no-brainer if you really want to survive doomsday. Come the end of the world, major supermarkets will definitely run out of their food supply because of the panicking people that filled the supermarkets and retail stores. You can choose to store and prepare survival food kits that match your nutritional needs. Don’t forget to address the food allergies of your family for your survival. Make sure that these food kits will last longer, say 6 months. These survival food kits in case of disasters will surely provide you food and energy that you need if ever the food supply totally runs out in your area.

3. A Handgun For Defense

If the situation becomes truly chaotic (think of the possibility if zombies attack you at your own home or if other people desperately try to get your food supply), you will need a handgun for self-defense and for defending your family. For example, if your home alarm system has been destroyed by an earthquake, you need to be aware of burglars and people who will target your house for their own supplies. Learn how to use one and for starters, experts recommend having handgun that you are comfortable shooting in a caliber that is 9mm or larger. Don’t forget to load set-defense ammunition in the handgun, that is what it is made for.

4. A Portable Radio To Be In The Loop

After you have safely evacuated your chaotic neighborhood, you’ll definitely need to be in the loop on the current events in your area and for possible safe places that you can evacuate to. Having a portable radio will allow you to stay informed and this is a great advantage since information is power.

5. First-Aid Kits

Prepping for the worst day also includes preparing for what might happen along the way during your escape. In case of an emergency, make a handy list of your first-aid essentials such as regular medicines, antibiotics, and gauze bandages if you or a family member ever gets wounded while on the run. Check to ensure that you have enough of each item in your first-aid kit.

6. A Handy Map And A Compass

Another no-brainer, these will come in handy should you need to locate the fastest and easiest escape route towards the next safe place. Yes, a lot of people are relying on their GPS or their other gadgets but if battery runs low, then your map will be your golden ticket to survival. Have a good quality road map of your area or secure a topographical map of your hometown and possible retreat areas. Along with a map, a compass will also come into good use if you need to go around the woods for your safety.

7. Flashlights

This will be extremely useful at night and for dark places that you might encounter. Be sure to have extra batteries as well for this item. A handy L.E.D flashlight that produces a strong light is needed for your survival.

8. Lighter And Fire Starters

If ever you need to stay out in the woods for several days, you will need lighters, matches and other fire starters to keep you warm and to possibly cook food as well. This will also be handy should you need to boil dirty water for it to be potable.

9. The Reliable Swiss Army Knife

This item is definitely included in the top security items list. A Swiss Army Knife is incredibly handy and valuable thanks to every function that it can do for your survival. You’ll never know when you’ll need it especially if you’re in an area where certain tools are out of reach.

10. A Hiking Backpack

You might think of the need for a place to put all the necessary items for your survival. Why not go for your hiking backpack as your “bug out” bag? Be sure that it has plenty of space and/or compartments and check to be sure you can carry it with a full load of your essential items. This will contain all of your emergency survival kits so be sure that your backpack is strong and intact.

Having this top 10 security items list will serve as your preparedness guide for terrible events such as doomsday. Properly securing and preparing each item will definitely help you in your survival and you will be assured that you’ve prepared ahead of those terrible times in the future.

Principles of Personal Defense

I have been familiar with one of the war hero’s of our nation, Colonel Jeff Cooper for a number of years now. He is renowned in the firearms community for establishing the Gunsite Training Institute where he provided training on rifle and shotgun as well as pistol training in Cooper’s modern technique which is identified in part by the use of two hands to shoot accompanied by the use of the weaver stance. In addition to a proud military history and phenomenal training academy, Jeff Cooper had a writing career that extended across seven decades of his life. While he wrote for several magazines and newsletters throughout his life, Cooper also wrote many books, one of which is titled, Principles of Personal Defense which serves as an awesome primer on situational awareness and dealing with the reality of having to defend oneself in the face of attack.

What I find particularly great about Principles of Personal Defense is that it is written from the perspective that attackers should not be allowed to dictate the circumstances in which we live. Colonel Cooper mentions in his introduction that only a small percentage of people are sociopaths that will commit crimes and go on to mention that,

Violent crime is feasible only if its victims are cowards. A victim who fights back makes the whole business impractical. It is true that a victim who fights back may suffer for it, but one who does not almost certainly will suffer for it. And, suffer or not, the one who fights back retains his dignity and his self-respect. Any study of the atrocity list of recent years-Starkweather, Speck,Manson, Richard Hickok and Cary Smith, et al-shows immediately that the victims, by their appalling ineptitude and timidity, virtually assisted in their own murders. (“Don’t make them mad, Martha, so they won’t hurt us.”)

Obviously the list of criminals from “recent years” is not so recent as this quote is taken from the first edition written in 1989 but the principle is a sound one. The idea of personal defense in this booklet is not limited to one particular setting but encompasses crimes at home and on the street which provokes additional thought as well. Cooper goes on to outline the seven principles of personal defense which are:

  1. Alertness – Know what is going on around you. This is covered with two basic rules. The first is know what is behind you and the second is pay particular attention to anything out of place.
  2. Decisiveness – When faced with a life threatening situation you must make the appropriate decision on how to react immediately.
  3. Aggressiveness – “The best personal defense is an explosive counterattack.” Being on the defense doesn’t allow one to be on the offense but a violent defense can completely stop an offensive attack.
  4. Speed – “The perfect defense is a counterattack that succeeds before the assailant discovers that he has bitten off more than he can chew.” Speed is key to surviving an attack by an assailant.
  5. Coolness – Keep your cool. Failure to keep it together can result in an inability to mount an effective defense.
  6. Ruthlessness – “Anyone who willfully and maliciously attacks another without sufficient cause deserves no consideration.” Operate within the confines of the law but offer no relief to the enemy. Given a chance to remove the threat, do so.
  7. Surprise – Do what your attacker does not expect you to do. By catching the attacker off guard, you can gain the advantage.
This booklet is not a long read at all and I would encourage everyone to read it. Even if you do not have an interest in firearms, the book can teach the reader a great amount about situational awareness and dealing with an attacker or the potential of facing an attack.

In addition to the previously mentioned works, COL Cooper is deeply engrained in many other principles of firearms training which include the four rules of firearm safety and firearm carry conditions. If you have ever heard of the scout rifle concept before then you have heard of another one of the works that COL Cooper is well-known for refining.

What do you think is the most important principle of personal defense? Leave your remarks in the comments section.

The Case For Concealment

There is no better time in the history of the United States to exercise our God given right to own and carry a firearm.  If you happen to disagree…you might be a liberal.  In all seriousness, the way that America is headed is a source of major concern for me and many others.  The economy is in trouble.  Politicians are exercising unbelievable powers and only implementing additional power at every opportunity.  Police forces throughout the country are starting to be harder to distinguish from the military.

My belief though is that the security of this country is going to be solidified by the citizens and not by law enforcement, the military, or the government.  As the budgets of most cities, townships, counties, parishes, and states continue to vanish like steam over a simmering pot, law enforcement agencies are seeing the number of officers on their staffs decrease.  The military is in a drawdown as the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan come to a conclusion.  With these resources dwindling, it is going to fall on us as Joe and Jane America to stand up for ourselves.  The day is coming where you may call for help and the dispatcher on the other end of the line tells you that there is no one to send to assist you.  The solution….

Legal concealed carry of a firearm!  With few exceptions, most of the states in our great country will allow a law abiding citizen who meets the minimum criteria to get a license to carry a concealed pistol.  If you qualify to get a concealed pistol license (CPL) then you will qualify to buy a pistol.  Furthermore to obtain your CPL you will need to undergo the mandatory training.  So now you have a pistol and you have the proper training, all you need is some ammunition and you will be set to be a part of the solution.  Once the word gets out on the street that citizens are taking a stand, criminals are going to at least reevaluate their profession.  Let’s be real, the only thing that laws are good for is keeping honest people honest.

NOTE: If you live in one of those areas that does not allow you to practice your constitutional rights I would encourage you to find a new place to live.  If this is not an option for you then check your local laws and see what you can legally carry as a means of defeding yourself and the ones that you love.  Pepper spray, tasers, stun guns, knives, monkey paws, and kubatons are all potential means of accomplishing this alternate means of defense.  Additionally, if you do have a concealed pistol license I would also encourage you to look at having a secondary means of self defense that is less than lethal.  Not every situation requires lethal force so another option is nice to have.  This also lends itself to the theory that when all you have is a hammer, everything starts to look like a nail.
