Fractions of Firearms Foresight

There are a couple of useful firearm related pieces of writing that I stumbled across and thought I would share here on the blog. Massad Ayoob is an authority in firearms tactics and training with decades of experience behind his name and has developed the, “Ten Commandments of Concealed Carry” which can serve as a great reminder for those that do carry concealed and also be a primer for those interested in carrying a concealed firearm. Buying a used firearm is a great alternative to the cost of purchasing a brand new handgun and reviewing this article could be beneficial to anyone considering such a purchase.

How To Buy A Used Handgun by Scott Smith

This article written by Scott Smith at Police Magazine is a great overview of some of the pros of purchasing a pre-owned handgun as an alternative to a brand new model and some of the things to look for and to avoid when shopping for a used firearm.

The Case For Concealment

There is no better time in the history of the United States to exercise our God given right to own and carry a firearm.  If you happen to disagree…you might be a liberal.  In all seriousness, the way that America is headed is a source of major concern for me and many others.  The economy is in trouble.  Politicians are exercising unbelievable powers and only implementing additional power at every opportunity.  Police forces throughout the country are starting to be harder to distinguish from the military.

My belief though is that the security of this country is going to be solidified by the citizens and not by law enforcement, the military, or the government.  As the budgets of most cities, townships, counties, parishes, and states continue to vanish like steam over a simmering pot, law enforcement agencies are seeing the number of officers on their staffs decrease.  The military is in a drawdown as the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan come to a conclusion.  With these resources dwindling, it is going to fall on us as Joe and Jane America to stand up for ourselves.  The day is coming where you may call for help and the dispatcher on the other end of the line tells you that there is no one to send to assist you.  The solution….

Legal concealed carry of a firearm!  With few exceptions, most of the states in our great country will allow a law abiding citizen who meets the minimum criteria to get a license to carry a concealed pistol.  If you qualify to get a concealed pistol license (CPL) then you will qualify to buy a pistol.  Furthermore to obtain your CPL you will need to undergo the mandatory training.  So now you have a pistol and you have the proper training, all you need is some ammunition and you will be set to be a part of the solution.  Once the word gets out on the street that citizens are taking a stand, criminals are going to at least reevaluate their profession.  Let’s be real, the only thing that laws are good for is keeping honest people honest.

NOTE: If you live in one of those areas that does not allow you to practice your constitutional rights I would encourage you to find a new place to live.  If this is not an option for you then check your local laws and see what you can legally carry as a means of defeding yourself and the ones that you love.  Pepper spray, tasers, stun guns, knives, monkey paws, and kubatons are all potential means of accomplishing this alternate means of defense.  Additionally, if you do have a concealed pistol license I would also encourage you to look at having a secondary means of self defense that is less than lethal.  Not every situation requires lethal force so another option is nice to have.  This also lends itself to the theory that when all you have is a hammer, everything starts to look like a nail.
