Human Capital & The Golden Rule

Human Capital & The Golden Rule

It is unfortunate but there will be no Monday Mania today. I am at the VA ALL day today! I just hope that I am on the secret list.

That said, I would like to share one thing with you all. Cliff Ravenscraft, of the Cliff Ravenscraft Show, recently interviewed Aaron Walker (life and business coach) about the fact that we all have a story to tell. For clarity, the Cliff Ravenscraft Show is very much focused on podcasting but, the Aaron Walker interview transcends podcasting and applies to each and every one of us because we do all have a story to tell.

I am sharing this because I feel like there is great value, on a human level, in listening to this interview. What particularly spoke to me was when Mr. Walker spoke about his dad’s story, a man who spent his life in business but never made any money.

The remarkable part (to me) in this story was the fact that when Mr. Walker’s dad was laying in the funeral home, there was a 1 1/2 hour wait, for 6 1/2 hours, for people to come through the line. Not one person had anything to say but great things about the elder Walker. It was not about tangible items, every person had something to say about how their lives had been better as a result of their interactions with Aaron’s father.

This ties into preparedness because it is human capital. Don’t you think that as a result of his investment in others, Mr. Walker could have rallied the community together or receive any assistance that he may have needed?

It is vital to remember that being prepared isn’t just about having a certain amount of stuff or skills, the ability to connect with others in a meaningful way can far outweigh stuff in many circumstances.

Life life by the Golden Rule and it will serve you well.

Matthew 7:12 (NIV)

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

Have a great week and God Bless!
