America…Where Everything Is For Sale!!!

So I was surprised to learn today that some of the wonderful elected officials in our country actually think it is a good idea to trade resident status in our country for a small investment.  It seems as though Sens. Charles Schumer (D., N.Y.) and Mike Lee (R., Utah), proposed a piece of legislation that would allow foreigners to earn a resident visa for investing $500,000 in American real estate.  The broad strokes can be viewed in the Wall Street Journal article.  Read the article just so you know what the circus on Capitol Hill is up to.  If you care for OUR country even a little bit, keep an eye on these clowns before they are able to sell any of it.  If for some reason this legislation does go somewhere make sure to write, call, email, or send smoke signals to your elected representatives and tell them they will be fired if they support such lunacy.  Do our lawmakers not realize that the people that we do not want in America more than anything are going to be the ones that can afford to spend half a million dollars to infiltrate the U.S.?  I just wish that I was surprised.

Why is Big Brother Hitchhiking???

I am sure that many have heard by now that the TSA has flown the coop and taken to the highways.  It makes me think of those signs that say “PRISON AREA DO NOT PICK UP HITCHHIKERS.”  I think a new sign is needed now though.  It should read, TSA AREA DO NOT PICK UP PEDESTRIANS IN BLUE SHIRTS.  What is unbelievable to me is that our country has gotten to the point that no one can travel anywhere without fear of some type of illegal search.  What ever happened to needing probable cause to conduct a search anyway?

The TSA is setting up these Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response (VIPR) teams to “augment”, to me that reads as supervise or brainwash, local as well as county and state law enforcement agencies in the detection of terrorist activities on the nation’s highways, railways, waterways, and who knows what other ways.  I had already gotten to the point where I no longer wish to fly anywhere unless there is no other alternative but this has got me wondering about traveling anywhere.  The searches of course started with semi-trucks and large vehicles that are required to stop at weigh stations but how long will it be before they start setting up check points at rest areas?  It might be legitimate.  You know terrorists have to pee too.  From the feedback I have seen though there have been no arrests made other than some minor drug offenses at these VIPR check points.

Do you know what else is great about all this additional “anti-terrorism” activity?

1. It costs our country a whole bunch of extra money that we have to borrow from China.

2. Our government gets even bigger with every such operation and expansion of their self-imposed power.

3. It encourages people to report activities that they see going on that they do not like whether they are truly a threat or not.  This in turn bogs down the system taking police assistance away from those that need it.  It also gives the government justification to expand their operations because they are obviously working based on the high number of reports that are being made.

4. Every time WE, the AMERICAN PEOPLE, let such additional activities occur in the name of whatever, we are sacrificing our personal liberty and the right to do what we want and when we want to do it in our own country.

5. IT PISSES ME OFF!  Have you seen some of the pictures of the searches that the TSA is conducting on children?  What makes it even worse is that these kids parents are letting it happen.  I can’t even type here what I would do if someone said they wanted to search my child.  If anyone else was touching a child like this they would have to register every time they moved.

I would encourage anyone who happens to enjoy being able to get in the car and go visit family during the holidays, or to go on vacation, or to even just take a trip to the lake without being “randomly” searched to speak out and let the government know that you are not ok with all this crap that they call security.  It is an invasion of privacy and violates the rights that we are losing because we are not standing up for them!

Prep Library – Where There Is No Doctor

Here is a reccomendation for those who are always looking to add to your survival library.  The book Where There Is No Doctor is a great resource that can be downloaded for free from the Hesperian Foundation here.  It is available in English or Spanish.  This manual contains information on how to diagnose, treat, and prevent common illnesses and injuries in a user friendly and easy to understand format.  It is perfect for those that are looking for a medical reference to use in case there is no access to a health care provider.  I would recommend downloading it and printing out a copy for the bookshelf.

Who is that in my trash can?!

Trash CanThis is re-posted from a post a made on another blog back in June but I feel that it is still pertinent and people should know what they are up against in this world (and our government).

Upcoming changes to the F.B.I. Domestic Investigations and Operations Guide may provide agents free reign to search trash cans and even conduct surveillance on people that might have caught their attention.  While it is claimed that the expanded authority is only for use in investigating or “assessing” possible criminal and terrorist activity it is not hard to see that the potential for abuse is there.  See this New York Times article that was published yesterday which outlines one more threat to our ever shrinking personal liberty.

All you peanut butter lovers out there had better think about making it to the store sooner as opposed to later.  For those that have not heard by now, due to poor weather conditions and not enough peanuts being planted in the first place, the cost of this years peanut supply to peanut butter producers is double what it was last year.  So what does this mean to you?  Peanut butter companies like Jif and Skippy are saying that price hikes in the 30% to 40% range should occur in less than a month or so.  It is also likely that these name brand products are going to be the most available as some store brands are discontinued because of the shortage.  Jif has already narrowed their product line by removing some of their expanded offerings like their honey infused peanut butter.  I have already gone out and purchased enough PB to go with my J and I would encourage you to do the same before it becomes cheaper to have caviar and jelly sandwiches.
